An Introduction To Personal Branding For Brits

I read a lot of personal development type books each year because of the type of job that I do. These range from the short and pointed ones to those that are similar to reading several dozen academic papers!

So, when I find one that really engages me and not only gives me ideas to think about but also makes me take action, as I am sure you can imagine, I am delighted!

I can honestly say that Personal Branding for Brits ranks as one of the best books I have read in the last couple of years! What's that you say "for Brits" why would I be interested in that? I thought you might have that reaction!

So below let me explain why I am recommending it even if you aren't British.

Personal Branding for Brits A Review

The reason that Jennifer Holloway calls it Personal Branding for Brits is because she is tapping into that perception that many people outside of Britain think that we Brits have a natural reserve or reluctance to boast about ourselves. That sort of attitude to life where you cringe at the thought of standing in the middle of town and telling everyone that passes that you are THE Best thing ever.

Does that sound a bit like you? Do you shudder at the thought of being seen as one of those people who trumpets how wonderful they are? But you still want to know "How To Sell Yourself To Find A Job, Land A Promotion And Get Ahead At Work" right? Then this book is for you! Or even for someone you know as a Christmas or Birthday Gift.

A Brief Summary Of This Excellent Book

If I had to sum up the book in a few short words it would be smart and actionable personal branding tips. That's precisely what Jennifer Holloway promises to deliver in Personal Branding for Brits and as far as I am concerned she more than delivers. Let's take a close look and see how Holloway delivers the goods!

Personal Branding for Brits - NOT Just for Brits!

The first thing that flashes to mind as Jennifer's book is explored is that these personal branding tips are worth their weight in gold and not just for British readers. She presents true universal personal branding methods that can be applied nearly anywhere and anyplace. What works well will work well for anyone and her ideas on personal branding are just as valuable to an American or Australian or really anyone else. A big thumbs up to Jennifer for over delivering on the promise of the book's title!

What the Book Provides

Personal Branding for Brits completely removes the mystery from establishing and promoting your own personal brand. These personal branding tips cover everything from traditional face to face, print, web and email efforts to the now all important area of social media.

I especially liked the exercise that Jennifer takes you through of looking at your personal drivers, what your values are, what reputation you want to have, what image you are presenting to the world and of course the skills you have. All of these go towards what might when you start reading the book seem like an elusive "Personal Brand"

Even for those who are experts in the area covered it would be hard for me to believe there wouldn't be at least a few new personal branding tips to ponder over and apply. I can see this book being taken off the shelf again and again as a reference for new strategies or as a refresher to keep personal branding efforts on point. The combination of usefulness, insight and avoidance of fluff make the content a true five star delivery if their ever was one on this important topic.

More than anything what I really like about the book is that it is written in a style that is both engaging and entertaining. Personal Branding for Brits isn't a dull text book, but for a personal development book it's what I could call a fun read.

Is Personal Branding for Brits for You?

If like me you're are interested in being what you want to be and focusing on those things that really matter to you then personal branding is an area that you should take a look at.

Jennifer Holloway's personal branding tips provide you with lots to think about. If you are at an early stage in your career then you will find it incredibly helpful to get you focused. If like me you are a little older and are at a point where you want to take stock and think about perhaps a change or adjustment to the direction of you career then this is the perfect book.

I have to tell you though that there is one missing ingredient in the book! That is action - something no book can provide. Taking action is down to you. What I would say is that Jennifer's really engaging style of writing almost compels you to take action.

I believe that reading this book and taking the effort to apply its ideas is going to make a real difference to your understanding of what you are about. That will then enable you to focus on what you want to be and how to get there. As I said at the outset this is one of the best books I have read in a long time and is highly recommended.

Feedback From Jennifer Holloway On This Review

I was delighted to recieve an email from Jennifer Holloway with the following comments:

“I wanted to say thank you so much for the fantastic review. It really made me smile as I read it and I’m so pleased the book’s practical focus worked for you; I specifically wrote it that way in response to all the other personal brand books which were great on the strategy but left me thinking, “So what do I do now?””
